HP R707 Camera Firmware Safety Recall
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Hewlett-Packard Company is recalling the firmware used in the HP R707 camera. HP customers who have the R707 Camera are asked to obtain and install a free firmware upgrade from HP. The affected cameras were distributed worldwide.
The Problem
When the R707 camera is used with a non-rechargeable battery, such as a Duracell CP-1, the camera can cause the battery to overheat resulting in a burn and fire hazard while the camera is connected to the ac adapter or camera docking station.
Product
The R707 camera contains firmware that controls the battery charging functions. The firmware provided with all R707 cameras is affected by this recall.
New Firmware Update
HP has released a new firmware update that can be obtained at the address below:

HP has released Firmware update version 2.00.24 that resolves this safety issue. This is a manual firmware update which requires an SD memory card to complete.
If you do not have an SD memory card but have the HP Image Zone software installed, you should instead download the Automatic HP Photosmart Firmware Update application for your HP PhotoSmart R707 digital camera (file col7429.exe) instead.
